Fall Favorites

I wanted to preface this blog post with two things. One I am in no way claiming to be a world renowned interior designer… ahem Joanna Gaines I’m lookin’ at you. Don’t get me wrong, I wish that I had her insanely creative interior design skills AND her budget. But ya girl is a middle class, stay at home, military wifey just trying to make her tiny home a cozy. Second thing, since I’m ballin’ on a budget I’ve had to chill out on the fall decor shopping this year. Being an expectant mama means that I’ve had to prepare for my little to get here. We’ve allocated some of our fun money to Baby M’s nursery (which I’m SO okay with). With that being said, I still need to step up my fall pillow game as well as my mantel decor situation. But have no fear, I’ve linked some AWESOME fall decor suggestions for you to shop from (let me live vicariously through you) that I would so be snagging if I was able.

My favorite space in our home is our living area. There’s just something special about the space where community gathers together. Our current home’s layout is a little smaller than the last but that’s allowed me to really tie the fall decor in our living space together. It’s also kept me from feeling like I need more fall decorations (which I’m sure makes Brad happy). I wanted to make this blog post more than just me sharing a bunch of links and then sending you on your way. I decided to share some tips that I’ve picked up through the years to help you make your space a cozy sanctuary that you love being in. I divvied up this post into several categories. That way you can get some ideas for each section of your communal living space. Each section not only has links to all my fall decor, but I’ve also included other options (just incase we have different design tastes) as well as a few tips on how to make each space special.

If you’re anything like me you LOVE decorating your dinner table. Our table is the center of our living space so it’s a place where our guests gather and spend time together. I wanted to give this space some special attention since it’s the focal point of my home. Since our home is small, It’s so important to not make the space that we have feel open and not cluttered. My biggest tip is to keep things simple. Don’t overcrowd your table. Choose a centerpiece that if you had to move it out of the way to give your guests space it’s simple enough to move out of the way in one fail swoop.

For my table I decided to go with a European dough bowl centerpiece. One I just love the way a dough bowl looks and two if I need to move it out of the way it’s one piece that I have to pick up. I filled the bowl with some simple wooden and glass hurricane candle holders, cream and brown twig bowl filler, cinnamon pine cones and some white pumpkins. It makes for a complex looking centerpiece when in reality it’s a few simple pieces thrown together in an effortless fashion. I completed the table by taking a rusty orange table cloth and fluffing it around the dough bowl and adding some rustic barn wood chargers, white dinning plates and some simple, neutral colored napkins. This creates a clean finish that ties the entire table together.

Mantel.jpg

Like I was saying before, my mantel situation isn’t the most elaborate. I basically used thing’s I had around the house and pieced them together. Our TV hangs over the mantel which really limits what I can do with this space. I kept things simple by using some cast iron, tapered candle holders and eucalyptus garland. I would love to get a full, fluffy piece off lambs ear garland and incorporate a gold meta leaf LED twinkle lights into it for the top of the mantel. I linked the look I’m describing below.

Since our dining area and living room share a space, I stuck with neutrals and a few pops of fall colors in order to create a cohesive look throughout our main living space. My fall table has a lot of neutrals and the one pop of rusty orange from the table cloth, so a I decided to take that same rusty orange and sprinkle it throughout my living room area. By picking one or two colors to add in with your neutrals will help warm up your space and create a flow.

Centerpieces.jpg

Let’s talk centerpieces. I know I already shared my Fall table center piece but you can actually use centerpieces in a few other spots throughout your home. Some of my favorite spots to incorporate centerpieces are my coffee table, my buffet table and even in my entry way. This helps incorporate pops of fall throughout your home and helps keep things fluent. I’m sticking with a more neutral pallet for fall so I kept my centerpieces very simple. As you can tell I love a good lantern. They help create a warm feel to any room. Adding a few remote controlled, faux candles to your lantern helps bring out the cozy in your space without the mess that real candles create.

If lanterns aren’t your thing, you can always create some faux floral arrangements. I decided to use a stump serving tray that I had and top it with a stout & tall mini vase combo. I grabbed a few different types of Fall faux florals and created neutral arrangements. I took some of the extra bowl filler from my table and added it in order to tie it into the rest of my Fall decor.

Pillows.jpg

Pillows are one of my FAVORITE ways to add color to a room. I don’t know what it is about a decorative pillow that really gets my inner interior designer going. Pillows can really uplift a room. I’ve seen many a couch come to life with the help of a few fluffy decorative pillows. Adding in a few pillows to your living space will help draw your central theme, whether its fall or any other season to completion.

Despite my love for a good pillow, my collection is currently in serious need of freshening up. Currently my obligations lie elsewhere, a.k.a prepping for my little peanut. I did however link my favorite fall inspired pillows that if I had an unlimited budget I would snatch up in a heartbeat. These are all currently on super sale for the long weekend. Be sure to comment which pillows you grabbed below. Let me live through you!
